what we gonna do, empty it and tow it, or tow it and then empty it?
connecting another vessel to it while it seems to not be balancing well, and then changing its weight distribution, seems quite tricky. i personally would not put humans on board that while emptying it. i would opt to calculate a weight given that draft, get four or six external flotation devices to take the brunt of the stability, and then proceed to empty it.
every thing about this very expensive, very tricky and potentially risky to human life. so while there is no immediate threat, lets survey this thing well, and then decide some options.

Eni is saying that the leak is resolved and the vessel stable....they seem to have personnel on board...so why not pump the water out?
Isn’t this a great way to force the ease of sanctions in order to sell the oil?
I think there is some gamesmanship in the mix
Actually worked on one of those rig/ships (Curlew FPSO).pugboy wrote:guyana is using similar method for their oil, piping it from offshore well to sea storage site and tankers unloading it from there

Each ship load was $4million at that time. Every 4 to 5 weeks they pump from sea bed and store in holding. Then a tanker would come and they would transfer from rig to tanker.
This type of issue gets presented before the World Court at The Hague.Duane 3NE 2NR wrote:There's a petition

Can the UN step in?

------------
In the international law in the course of time a comprehensive regulatory regime on prevention of marine oil pollution (particularly oil spills) was developed. Special attention was paid to the regulation of marine oil pollution by shipping (Salter & Ford, 2001), so the existing rules cover mostly vessel-source pollution. The most effective instruments in the marine environment protection are regional treaties. Almost all regional treaties include a general obligation for signatory states to prevent, reduce and control all forms of maritime pollution.
In the Helsinki convention[1] -

and the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic (OSPAR Convention)[1] -

one can find more concrete clauses like the precautionary concept, polluter pays concept, best available technology, and best environmental practice.

The comments about this possibility being intentional are out of the remit of FFOS. Now they're delving into geopoliticssnypaz wrote:FFOS deleted this post while I was reading it. Makes you wonder why.

She was a total rust bucket and crappy place to work.
It all depends on the age of the vessel , the older ones are not equipt with double hulls, these are pre 1990 .RedVEVO wrote:zoom rader wrote:Yup that's herRedVEVO wrote:zoom rader wrote:Actually worked on one of those rig/ships (Curlew FPSO).pugboy wrote:guyana is using similar method for their oil, piping it from offshore well to sea storage site and tankers unloading it from there

Well you are definitely the expert here ..
So doesn't that Venezuelan Storage Ship have double hull etc. ?
FFSO is correct or all this is drama ?
