Amazing that the red government is at war with the people that finance them.

Trinidad and Tobago to Receive Vaccines from India and China
Subsequent to official correspondence from the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago to the Prime Minister of India, the Government of India has today officially informed the Government of Trinidad and Tobago that 40,000 doses of WHO-approved Astra Zeneca vaccines have now been approved for donation to Trinidad and Tobago.

Additionally the People’s Republic of China has offered 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to support and safeguard the health of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has graciously accepted this generous offer of the Sinopharm vaccine as we anxiously await WHO approval.

Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley has expressed his sincerest appreciation and gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping for their generosity to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

All relevant arrangements are being made for the shipment of the vaccines to Port of Spain.

The news today suggest that things have taken a turn for the better.
A little bit of humility and less combativeness with a focus on results for the citizens of T&T can really yield results.
If only this can apply universally in our country, the sky is the limit.
We may have loss some valuable time but are thankful for what seems to be the coming.

Lol what?

Despite the UNC misinformation, this has been in the works from long time.

UNC needs to be ashamed because they said that the Caribbean would not have many cases because sunlight kills covid-19

Opposition Leader credits climate with low covid19 numbers
PAULA LINDO WEDNESDAY 20 MAY 2020

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said she believes the climate is responsible for the low numbers of covid19 cases and deaths which have occurred throughout the Caribbean.

She said cases and deaths in TT have been slow and few respectively, but it was interesting that the entire Caribbean is in the same position.

“So those who say we’ve done very well in Trinidad, we took the right measures and so on, well it means we’ve done very well in the whole Caribbean.”

She reiterated that she had called for a lockdown when the first death occurred because it would help stop the spread of the virus.

“But the other islands did the same and the rest of the world, now in some countries they locked down but it proved to be very deadly, so we are very blessed and we have to give praise and thanks.”

Persad-Bissessar said the lockdown had caused tremendous suffering and government has totally mismanaged the situation when it came to assisting people. She said more grants were announced at every press briefing, but some people had not received the first set of grants. She thanked her party activists and the good Samaritans who had assisted with the giving out of hampers and foodstuff.

She said it was one thing to be managing the lockdown, phasing the opening of the economy, and for there to be a roadmap to recovery team, but the roadmap must include something to create jobs and income. She said the government has no plan for doing so and was waiting for the recovery team to write their manifesto for the election.

Covax to deliver 33,600 covid19 vaccines to Trinidad and Tobago next Wednesday
NARISSA FRASER 2 MINUTES AGO

AFTER weeks of uncertainty of its arrival date, Trinidad and Tobago's supply of covid19 vaccines is on its way.

The 33,600 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday.

Last week, Jamaica became the first Caribbean country to get vaccines through Covax, receiving 14,400 doses.

A live tracker on PAHO's (Pan American Health Organization) website showed supplies are on their way to Suriname, Guyana, Belize and TT.

Suriname will get 24,000 doses on Friday, and Guyana and Belize will get 33,600 each. Guyana's will arrive on Tuesday and Belize's on Wednesday.

In total, Covax has delivered 2,213,280 doses of the vaccine so far.

Finally, let's see how fast we can vaccinate 16,800 people. If Deyalsingh and the government want to appear competent after this mess, let's see how quickly we can do this.

Come on Terry, impress we for once.

Exclusive: India delays big exports of AstraZeneca shot, as infections surge

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India has put a temporary hold on all major exports of the AstraZeneca coronavirus shot made by the Serum Institute of India (SII), the world’s biggest vaccine-maker, to meet domestic demand as infections rise, two sources told Reuters.

The move will also affect supplies to the GAVI/WHO-backed global COVAX vaccine-sharing facility, through which 64 poorer countries are supposed to get doses from the SII, the programme’s procurement and distributing partner UNICEF told Reuters.

Deliveries will be delayed in March and April "as the government of India battles a new wave of COVID-19 infections," GAVI, an alliance of countries, companies and charities that promote vaccination, said in a statement here.

COVAX was in talks with India to “ensure some supplies are completed during March and April,” it said, adding that the SII had supplied 28 million doses to COVAX. An additional 40 million doses had been expected in March and up to 50 million doses in April.

An Indian government source said New Delhi had not imposed any ban on vaccine exports “unlike many other countries,” and that it would continue to supply doses in phases.

“We remain committed to help the world with vaccines, including through the COVAX facility,” said the source, declining to be named.

But the source said it may be necessary to adjust supply schedules given India’s vaccination needs. ...

“No exports, nothing till the time the India situation stabilises. The government won’t take such a big chance at the moment when so many need to be vaccinated in India.”

India has so far exported more than 60.5 million doses in total, according to the foreign ministry's website here, and many countries are relying on the COVAX programme to immunise their citizens.

vaccine nationalism all around...

First America (under Trump) did it. He bought out production for every candidate vaccine months in advance, even before any vaccines had clinical trial data or approvals. The USA has millions of doses of the AZ vaccines sitting in a reserve. The AZ vaccine aren't FDA approved so not even a single dose from that reserve has been used.

Then this week, the EU started nationalizing AZ's stockpile in Europe. Vaccines that were manufactured for orders outside of Europe were seized.

Now, according to that Reuter's article, India is looking to monopolize the SII's manufacturing capacity for their own population.

I think the real hope for the third-world lies with the USA's excess commercial capacity. Trump did it right by massively funding and buying up everything early o clock- his people got theirs first, production started early at a massive scale, and soon the rest of us will be able to buy them too. I personally want the Pfizer one.

Yes, while you may be right that they didn't, well more accurately, couldn't access vaccines form India, they did by their rabble rousing, was show up JUHN Scarfy and Salt War's incompetence, false pride and ego, so the political capital is priceless.
Now Salt War is thanking JUHN Scarfy for making it happen  I've never seen such sycophantic praise for incompetence since Trump's GOP.

These numbers of vaccines are just a scratch on the surface as will be taken up by the essential and special cases
Still far from herd immunity or whatever
