You didn't bother to read the article that you posted.

"The downtown branch at Excellent Stores, Port-of-Spain—its longest-standing branch—will close at the end of December 2020 as the company continues to revolutionise its business model.

In a statement, the company explained that with the increased demand for online and curbside orders, Excellent Stores is upgrading its e-commerce business by repurposing and reallocating a greater amount of resources into its processes to enhance the customer experience and fulfilment processes, as well as a variety of payment options to increase its usability to a wider segment of the population.

Although many businesses are folding due to the economic shock caused by COVID-19, Excellent Stores said this was not the case."

So Excellent Stores closing more stores:

Trincity - March 31
Arima - April 3

But they are building their online presence to become the Amazon of the Caribbean.

They have seen 1400% increase in online shopping on their website.

Amazon has gotten surprisingly crappy nowadays. Many categories are filled with no-name garbage products that are rated 4.5/5 stars from fake reviews.

customs and shipping delays and forex have a massive massive impact on doing business during this covid scenario.

i see some banks even remove their FOREX chart from up front because they simply not selling forex to the public.

imagine i order items in november for Christmas and get them last week even though they were in trinidad since early december
so customs had their delays PLUS charge me storage fees due to their delays

small businesses simply not going to survive. anyone paying rent gonna find it real hard to survive.

Reminds me of the takeaway from Top Gear's review on the first gen BMW X6: it was created for a world that ceased to exist after the 2008 economic crash. Trinidad was much different before prosperity brought the first wave of foreign franchises that were patronized for social flam. Even locally, people were scoffing at bottled water and $20 coffee from Rituals before that became normal and Starbucks arrived to make Rituals look like a ghetto experience.

Not to paint those foreign franchises with the same negative stroke - it felt nice to feel like Trinidad was becoming like international folks - but that is only sustainable with a certain level of prosperity. It just cannot be maintained in this present climate. Yet somehow I fear that the economic situation so dread that the void being created by the failure of these fancy businesses is so harsh that local entrepreneurs cannot take advantage to save the day, so to speak. As well, fancy Trinis rather dead than say they went a local place for bess deal food and prices.

Most of their menu is from the freezer straight to the microwave.

Nothing of value was lost.

Good point :D

Nowadays ..

The DINER in Maraval sells a simple beef burger for $110 .

A similar beef burger in Woodbrook - Aripita Ave - $40 with a drink :!: :!:

And the Venes Rule with their business survival skills

To go to Maracas and eat Shark and Bake for $50 ?

Well maybe on your birthday

The reason is the exploitation of some business has come to an end.

Example : A Coffee Shop in Grand Bazaar - they sell a slice of cake 2 MM thickness for $45 !!
