Re: Coronavirus - COVID-19 - 600 cases, 12 deaths, 448 active, 140 discharged in T&T

Postby redmanjp » August 18th, 2020, 4:41 pm

businesses need to develop an online portal for customers to shop and get delivery service- at least do it before Christmas- God forbid there is another 3rd wave and we have to lock down during the busiest shopping season for the year! A partial lockdown of such a business would prohibit customers from going into stores but allow essential employees only to be there to fulfill orders.

I know some furniture stores have this already. but even stores selling smaller items like computers could have this type of service.

Pricesmart has recently rolled out a shop-at-home service with curbside pickup.

Without lockdowns and mandatory measures the infection rate will be too high and it will overwhelm the healthcare system.
Which means that if you get into an accident or get sick from something else there will be no hospital facility available to treat you.
We are not under total lockdown and people are being asked to be responsible and cautious to prevent the spread without totally stopping the economy.
If our population were responsible and followed the guidelines then there would be no need for any lockdown, like in Singapore, but Sunday proved that we are incapable of operating like that and need to be force into compliance.
Lockdown was too late and little

on bars - the state epidemiologist Dr Hinds - stated they had documented local "super spreader events" at bars in late July/early August. That was the same press conference where Dr. Rowley talked about countries losing control at that point.

he really should have closed bars at that time. I was incredulous when he finished the press conference with bars and dine-in restaurants still open.

on the post election spike - yes the incubation time is up to 14 days, but most cases manifest by day 4 through day 7. Today, being August 18th, puts us right at the tail end of the spike with lower numbers expected.

also, passed by Gulf City and the parking lot is fairly empty. People doing their part by staying away and isolating. The population is not as dotish as some here would have you believe.

The PNM has done a fantastic job in handling the pandemic, but it was not perfect.

I can just imagine what chaos there would have been under the UNC.

Yes maybe but still doesn't stop us from critiquing Rowley's inconsistent handling.

Hello DPD,

Not at all man.

Plenty plenty flaws in the handling i admit.

Unfortunately we have lost the majority of support from the public.

But then again, the Govt is still too lenient with the public so you will get the inconsistencies from both sides.

https://newsday.co.tt/2020/08/18/engagement-party-blamed-for-covid19-spike/

Engagement party blamed for covid19 spike
ANDREW GIOANNETTI 22 HRS AGO

AN ENGAGEMENT party held recently by a well-known family from the west is believed to be one source of a recent upsurge in confirmed covid19 cases.

The numbers of cases has risen sharply over the past couple weeks, after a dramatic increase in testing being done at both private and public facilities.

Newsday spoke with two close relatives of a couple for whom an engagement party was hosted “down the islands.”

They could not confirm how many people attended but said it was far too crowded to be considered a responsible gathering.

“They were a lot of young people there...Dozens, obviously without face masks,” said a person in the family, who asked not to be named.

“It’s causing a lot of confusion. We know of a couple (of them) who are confirmed (positive) and some, especially the older ones in their families, are not too pleased about it. It’s created a serious health hazard.”

A social media post shared widely recently, with an accompanying photo of St Clair Medical, suggested that over 200 young people attended an engagement party, after which there was an upsurge in testing done at St Clair at $2,600 per test.

Newsday understands that St Clair Medical some time ago introduced a drive-through testing system by appointment.

The test is done while the patient is in the car and they receive results in one to two days. The actual cost is $1,650 per test.

What you expect, this parallel covid healthcare system is born out of the original. When things reach the limit the results will be the same.

The way terry boasts about this covid healthcare system we should be shutting down the regular system and starting over based on the covid mgmt model.
