Breast Cancer surgery

Is double mastectomy for breast cancer surgery available in public healthcare or free in Trinidad. How do you go about finding a surgeon?

Go see your GP. She will write a referral letter and instruct you on which clinic to go. You go with the letter, show the nurse, attend the clinic and see the specialist. You will be instructed and cared for.

Please don't be afraid to ask your doctor any questions or concerns.

OP, double mastectomies are routinely done in most public hospitals. but keep in mind, let the patient know that like any other surgical procedure theres risks, and that they should ask to see the surgeon before they do the surgery and ask them about the potential risks and after effects of the surgery.
since it's a dm, they will most likely be removing the patient's axillary lymph nodes. this coupled with dm, if the surgeon is not very skilled and careful during the procedure, can result in the patient developing lymphedema of the upper extremities, and that has its own set of physical and psychological negative effects. if it's one thing you want to minimize it's the risk of lymphedema.
Potential chest wall pain and scarring, loss of mobility in the arms, and the new physical appearance of the patient can be a serious shock to the patients mental state. it have a lot more the patient needs to know to ask about that the doctors might not tell her without her asking.

hope she has a successful surgery,
