The Kick’em Jenny Volcano is restless. Seismicity and/or fumarolic activity are above the historical level or other unusual activity has been observed or can be expected without warning. This is level two of four.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) of Grenada through Technical advice from the monitoring team at the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre St Augustine Campus Trinidad and Tobago (UWI SRC), that there have been increased seismic activity at the Kick‘em Jenny Volcano.

Kick em Jenny is less than 200kms from our north coast.
Pretty close enough to be concerned

Imagine if that volcano erupts and destroy Grenada, the PNM is going to take in all Grenadians and build a few more beethams and John John

It's 2020, how it go look if we didn't get a few earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and hurricanes.

FYI; if it erupts with that amount of force then most likely Alot of low lying areas in Trinidad will also be damaged!

Hopefully the north coast would protect most of TT. Assuming there is a tsunami event.

The threat of a tsunami is real for us since it is a submarine volcano. Iirc our west coast is most vulnerable and the west of Trinidad is where most of the population reside, also all of our industries and many of our disaster relief headquarters.
If this thing has a major eruption we will be flattened!

If Tobago was to get wiped out from this, tobagonians will cut a deal to relocate to Trinidad into government houses and will be given tobagonian rights, will keep their THA allocation and welfare and their two electoral seats.

Trinidad and Tobago is one country but lazy tobagonians enjoy the benefits of Trinidad plus THA. It’s like a child who never passes 18 whose living with a step father and mother but still collecting support from the original father.

Grenada Records More Than 1000 Small Earthquakes Recorded At Underwater Volcano
15 June 2020

Grenada has recorded more than a 1000 small earthquakes at the underwater volcano, Kick ‘em Jenny, last week and this has caused the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) to issue an advisory reminding marine traffic and communities within proximity about the build-up of activity.

Located between Carriacou and Grenada, the submarine volcano has been on yellow code for years but sporadically, will become more than active.

“For the months of April and May there were only 29 earthquakes with a magnitude between 1.6 and 2.0 but for the period June 5th to 12th there were 1384 earthquakes with a magnitude as high as 1.8, that was a significant amount for that short period,” said NDMA’s Communications Officer, Oslyn Crosby.

Last eruption was April 2017. From http://uwiseismic.com/General.aspx?id=55#When%20will%20Kick%20%E2%80%98em%20Jenny%20next%20erupt?

".... the most recent eruptions occurred on July 23rd 2015 and April 2017."

The tsunami threat has been exaggerated.

From http://uwiseismic.com/General.aspx?id=55#Can%20an%20eruption%20trigger%20a%20tsunami?

"Because the current depth to the Kick 'em Jenny vent (268 m) is considerably lower than the depth at which very explosive eruptions can be expected at this volcano (130 m), we think it is unlikely that an eruption will trigger a tsunami. While it is probable that very large explosions or landslides at Kick 'em Jenny could generate tsunamis, the threat from tsunamis has been largely over exaggerated. Not all eruptions at Kick 'em Jenny will generate tsunamis and not all tsunamis will be large. Kick 'em Jenny has erupted at least 12 times since 1939 and scientists have not been able to confirm that a tsunami was triggered during any of those historic eruptions. Eruption-generated tsunamis may, of course, become a more significant hazard if Kick ‘em Jenny does begin to grow closer to the surface. Of much more immediate concern at present is the danger posed to shipping due to direct hazards associated with the volcano."

Hmmm, sounds reasonable enough. The exaggeration was convincing to the UWI Professor who propagated it in his risk management class I guess!
