4 Arrested - $250,000 Worth of Perishable Items recovered

Four persons were arrested earlier today after obtaining goods under false pretences.

Around 9 am today, police responded to a report regarding goods that were obtained by false pretences. They proceeded to the Malabar Industrial Estate where they intercepted two trucks with four occupants. After further enquiries, the occupants led police to a location in Caroni where they recovered a number of perishable items valued at approximately $250,000.

The goods were paid for by cheque yesterday. However, when the cheque was presented to the bank, it was discovered to be fraudulent. The men returned today to purchase additional items and were intercepted and arrested by police.

The exercise was coordinated by Supt Edwards and ASP Deonarine. It was supervised by Insp Ward and spearheaded by Insp Black and Sgt Haynes. It also included officers of the Arima Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Arima Operations, Arima Municipal Police and the Canine Unit.

Enquiries are continuing.

Dragged into bushes and raped, in Princes Town
A Princes Town man was arrested on Thursday, hours after a woman reported that she was sexually assaulted.

The 22-year-old woman told police that she was dragged into a bushy area off Buen Intento Road at around 11.30am..

The woman said she was beaten and raped by the man.

Acting on information, police said, officers went to St Croix Road and detained a 30-year-old man in connection with the incident.

He is expected to be charged with the crime.

The victim was taken to the Princes Town District Hospital where she was treated.

Buen Intento road itself connects to the "Tasker Road", but also leads to a deserted piece of near impassable roads and endless bush, but I doubt any woman would be walking that road in broad daylight.

I don't know where this happened, but if it is near to where the road begins in Princes Town, that real sad because there is a 'massage parlor' a stone's throw away. Seems like uncle could not afford to spend 200.

3 held for Wrighton Road robbery

Three men have been held for assaulting and robbing two women along Wrightson Road in Port of Spain.

Around 5pm yesterday, the women were walking near a gas station when they were accosted by the suspects who alighted from a vehicle.

The women were both dealt blows to their bodies and their bags containing a quantity of cash were taken from them.


Information on the incident was relayed to officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, who intercepted a blue Toyota Corolla along the Laventille Road.

The three suspects, ages ranging from 23 to 27 years, were arrested.

PRINCES TOWN RAPIST CAUGHT

Police detained a 30-year-old Princes Town man on Thursday afternoon, hours after a woman reported that he raped her in some bushes off the roadside in Buen Intento, Princes Town.

A passer-by assisted the 22-year-old victim.

By 5.30 pm, Insp Victor, Cpls Suliman and Narine, and other police from the Crime Patrol Unit arrested the suspect at a house. PCs Ali and Ramjass and WPC Mitchell were also part of the arrest.

Prisons Officer Arrested at MSP

On Sunday February 21, 2021, at around 7.30pm, a Prisons Officer with over seven
years' service was caught attempting to enter the Maximum Security Prison, with what appeared to be a compressed plant-like substance hidden in his food.

The officer, who was under surveillance for some time, when questioned, named a prisoner whom he said is his relative and that they came from the same area.

The operation which was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Prisons(Ag), Mr. Sherwin Bruce, prompted a further search of the officer's locker, where $15,000.00 in cash and a water bottle filled with alcohol were found. The officer was cautioned of his actions and then taken away by officers attached to the Arouca Police Station who were called in, where he is assisting them with inquiries into the matter.

Commissioner of Prisons (Ag.), Mr. Dennis Pulchan who, only days ago, vehemently expressed his disdain for trafficking at a Passing-Out ceremony, has stated that "efforts to weed out all the traffickers who continue to tarnish the image of the Prison Service, and at the same time, put the lives of their colleagues at more risk, are in full operation and they will feel the full brunt of the law".

He has commended the effectiveness of the collaboration between the Prisons Interdiction Team and the intel and operational staff that have been implemented to weed out and apprehend traffickers.

Commissioner Pulchan also thanked all the hard- working officers of the Prison Service for their continuous and selfless efforts in the maintainence of public safety and security.
