Calder Hart wants his name cleared

Calder Hart, the former executive chairman of the Urban Development Corporation of T&T (Udecott), wants the findings of the Commission of Enquiry into the Las Alturas housing development quashed and his name cleared because he believes those findings are “illegal”.

Hart claims he was denied “natural justice and due process” by the commission because he was not provided with “adequate notice of the contemplated adverse findings” that were made against him.

As such, Hart said the decisions should be quashed because he was not given “adequate notice” that there was going to be adverse findings against him.

If he was here today, Manning would be reading the CoE concluded that Hart should, therefore, be held accountable and liable for the losses sustained in the execution of the project.

If he was here today, Manning might have conceded that the overall responsibility for the Las Alturas Project would have been that of his Housing Minister Keith Rowley who was the line Minister of UdeCOTT and HDC from November 2003.

If he was here today, Manning might have reflected that in December 2003, during Rowley’s tenure as Housing Minister, China’s Jiangsu was awarded the contract by UdeCOTT to design and build 297 apartments in Las Alturas.

Canada-born Hart was the blue-eyed boy of former prime minister Patrick Manning, who praised and defended him no less than 45 times over two years. The allegations against Hart were first made by former Tabaquite representative Ramesh Lawrence in Parliament on May 23, 2008.

Hart resigned suddenly in the midst of documents linking him and a company the Udecott board awarded $820 million in Government contracts. Immediately after his unexpected resignation, Hart, his wife and daughter took a flight to Ft Lauderdale, Florida.

It's just sad that the citizens of this nation have to pay the price for mismanagement of the economy, especially when you think about the amount of money pass through this country.
Wa happen to vision 2020, or what is vision 2025, 2030? If a man truly had vision or even the slightest bit of compassion for his people he wouldn't have sold them out to a bunch ah businessmen.
We always like to talk about recession, but we hardly ever talk about the reasons that caused us to be in this position today, who are the ones that profited and why no one will ever be held accountable.
It is interesting to see people defend the politicians with their life while these very politicians don't give a sh!T about anything besides filling their pockets. All them politicians hadda say is, "them n!gga do it before" or "them c'00lie do it before" so everybody then close their eyes and that gives them politicians a free pass to rape the treasury no questions asked, and if them need a little extra then tax allyuh c'unt.

Let him come personally to clear his name if he wants it cleared. Hopefully the DPP could get their act together and have some warrants waiting for Hart on his arrival at Piarco for everything else besides the Las Alturas housing.

“What has now been accepted as uncontroverted evidence is that serious contractual shortcomings took place at Udecott and major contracts have been awarded, in particular the Ministry of Legal Affairs Tower.

“The evidence is that the chairman of Udecott, while admitting he invited CH Development to bid, and he also said he did not know who these people were, the testimony before the commission is now evidence that the persons are members of his family and in that situation it triggers and warrants certain criminal investigations.” The Diego Martin West MP added: “It also ran afoul of the Integrity in Public Life Act and a person against whom such allegations are made, such a person should not be enjoying the positions of authority as chairman of these agencies and should not be enjoying the protection and support of the Prime Minister.

“I am once again saying that Mr Hart be immediately removed from these positions. These are huge public expenditures. “In the case of the MLA Tower, the original contract was $368 million. Recently we saw, without competitive tendering, an additional $300 million was added to that contract for outfitting. “So that contractor would have ended up with $668 million worth of work, which we now see in the evidence, was directed to the contractor in contravention of the Integrity in Public Life Act, and possibly in contravention of the anti-corruption laws of this country.” Rowley said public policy demanded action be taken immediately. He does not want the Government to say that it will not act until the commission publishes its report. “Enough information is available and this morning’s development simply deepens this scandal. We cannot have an individual sharing agencies, enjoying Cabinet’s support, spending public monies while a commission of inquiry receives information in the nature of Mr Carl Khan’s testimony,” Rowley declared.

would not be surprised if he is successful, rum shop talk and legalese is two different things, a entire political campaign was based on accusing CH, not a single successful prosecution came out of the ole talk, and for those saying let him come, I'm sure he could if he wished, there is no outstanding warrants of arrest for him afaik
