This normally happens around Xmas time. Especially on Credit cards, ppl use their cards and when the bills comes they paid it. However when the following bills come they may see that only some money or none was paid, meaning that someone took the rest and part paid the credit card bill.
What dey do is to observed your spending pattern to see if you are careless and only pay the minimum. Most likely the card user don't really check his bill and just accept it as gospel.
Happened to me twice at a local bank and took over 2 months to resolve. I paid my card and noticed that it was halved on the following bill, although my receipt shown I paid it. I ditched that bank and pulled all my accounts from that bank, Also sent a letter to the CEO for my dissatisfaction.
Always check you CC bill or any other accounts and keep all receipts. Make sure your receipt is also stamped . Dealing with banks to get your money back is very tricky, they will always put the blame on you for being careless.

this has to be some kind of inside job hack to be able to install software on the atm machines
as the machines slots physically do not allow the old time method of card capture anymore.

If you used your card from any bank in an rbc machine it could have been compromised the device fits exactly over the slot and looks like the normal green shroud around the slot. There is usually either a camera or a person in the room to record your pin

why then does it seem that only RBC customers got hit? I mean yeah, mostly RBC card holders would use an RBC ATM, but surely there'd be news of other bank customers getting hit too...

I tend not to use other bank ATMs to avoid LINX charges.
Plus if something goes wrong with your transaction, you'll get the issue resolved a lot sooner than having to liaise with 2 banks.

There are skimmers that get all your information and ur pin as the fraudsters have gotten better equipment, rbl, fcb and scotia have started to secure their cards, but Rbc isnt doing anything....a fraud officer told me that every week they record reports of abm fraud and 99% of the time its from a Rbc customer

If the card got skimmed then how would that allow them to transfer money abroad? Wouldn't that just let them copy the card and make withdrawals?

I believe the skimming thing is just a cover story for the media, and the bank has serious internal fraud......

RBC is an international bank and its cirrus feature is similar to our local linx. As a result, the info gathered can be cloned to another card and used anywhere.

This feature was handy when I was in the US and forgot my cash at the house and ended up using the debit card. Worked just like linx and the charge was no where like a CC.

All that $hitt and the bank didn't pick up on it???

With FCB I made a custom payee payment for $5000 and the bank called me. I missed the call and they then blocked my account with a note to call them to verify the charges.

Was impressed with their proactive nature.

Well of course they picked up on it. And of course they knew. And of course it's not as simple as the news reporting it.

White collar crime have to frolic in TT.

And that is how some people can afford $65,000 to burn on fireworks in one night.
