One man is dead and three others wounded following a shooting incident yesterday morning at the popular Spotlight Bar in Curepe.
Police reports indicated that Nicholas Mohammed of Havelock Street, Curepe, was liming with a group of friends at Spotlight Bar along Bellesmythe Street, Curepe.
Mohammed, police said, was celebrating his 36th birthday at the bar.
At about 1.30 a.m. yesterday, two men of African descent were observed entering the bar. On seeing Mohammed, one of the men pulled out a firearm and pointed the weapon in the man's direction and fired several shots.
After this, both men fled the scene, escaping in a silver Nissan B-14 car which was waiting on the roadway outside.
The vehicle was last seen driving south along Bellesmythe Street.
It was soon realised that Mohammed, as well as three other people in his close vicinity—Darren Ali, 37, of Rapsey Street, Curepe; Mario Gardiner, 42, of St Ann's Road, St Ann's; and Shernel Villanna, 35, of Jubilee Street, Tunapuna; had been shot.
The police and emergency health services were notified and a party of officers from St Joseph Police Station and Tunapuna Police Station, under the supervision of Inspector Remy, visited the scene.
The wounded men were all taken to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope for treatment.
Mohammed was pronounced dead on arrival. The other three people were treated for their injuries and were expected to be discharged by yesterday evening.
Enquiries are continuing.
His killing brought the murder toll for the year so far to 176.
Last year at the same time the murder toll stood at 191.
