Maybe the watertank foundations??

Certainly not the actual buildings themselves. By the time support services were being built I left that project.

The water tank is on a ring foundation, not piles.

Been inside a few times, many of the tunnels are impassable or partially blocked and unsafe. Ran a few training exercises there with TTDF.

Too much creepy crawlies. All of the serviceable equipment was removed when the Yanks left, there are some old equipment but in a very deplorable state.

Defence Force do have complete maps of the underground facility.

he embellishes a lot of what he says though,
I recall going to a "lecture" he gave on 1990 conspiracy theories
was rather imaginative

his passion for history is unrivalled though and unfortunately he is presently sick I understand

This..Commodore Gaylord Kellshall , at the Chaguaramas Military Museum, does have pictures of both Waller Field and Carlsen Field.

And ALL of the runways in T&T back then.

Hangars at Carlsen Field were said to be the largest in the World at the time.

OK so the tunnels were built as a strategic defence mechanism by the US when word came of hittler's plan to take control of Trinidad. The April 8th 1939 edition of us news talks about this in his speech to the Reichstag in march that same year. Trinidad was part of his strategic plan to get better access to south america, the panama canal and the us.Some parts of those tunnels may have already collapsed, some I expect will be under the control of the ttdf and others may just be too spooky that people would enter. In the war days the US used it to house anything important like weapons, soldiers and supplies also as passageways in the event Germany struck an attack.

Once heard rumors of an underground GERMAN base in Tobago. Entrance supposed to be via a sea cave. There was a newspaper story in the mid-90's in which a woman claimed that the Germans were still there!
