Pickups are rwd, you only engage the 4wd when needed.

They have damn near no weight over the rear axle so it's very tail happy in the wet. Combined with an agressive torque curve on a diesel and inexperience will send you in spin around any moist curve

Wouldn't call them jinxed. Rather they suffer from people's car dilemma.

That's the car that gets wide adoption because it either cheap from brand new, or becomes cheap on the used market. Poor owner rejoices; they could get car now. But what to do with that money they potentially save on the car priced out of their pocket?
Regular preventative maintenance? Good brand tyres? Insurance and inspection costs taken care of?
Nah.
Visually upgrade the car to reinforce the mental picture of it as a performance model. Proceed to push it as such until it reminds you in a critical or fatal way that it was always a pedestrian econobox.
You tend to spot the cars and owners easily.
