Ridiculous light bill amounts

Postby Soul Collector » July 17th, 2013, 1:08 pm

Guys, maybe some ppl here working T&TEC or could at least help me try to understand this.

Our bill used to come like $600-$700 or so a few years ago. Now it reading $1100-$1300.

All we have is a small window unit, and I recently installed a 12,000 btu split unit. We have a water pump for the tank (with a switch so its off when we dont need it). We have no dryer or water heater (beside the lil hundred dollar shower head not the big ones to run through pipes and stuff).

T&TEC came twice (which we had to pay for), second time they said we need to rewire the house. Wiring was old so we went ahead and did over every single thing, from breaker to plugs to new wiring all around. Bill coming the same. Ppl in the area and out the area have their entire house AC'ed and have welding plants and jacuzzi even, and their bill less than us :|

Thanks. I have a post in that thread actually lol. My kwh consumption is really damn high. Maybe I could try turning off the breaker later and see if anyone else current gone. T&TEC refusing to take blame and if we dont pay, they will just cut it.

just start checking your meter everyday if you can at a specific time.We started doing it,went from our regular $2400 to $1400 in a cycle.Really helps if you switch out most of your lights to LED Bulbs, and unplug stuff you not gonna be using.

Oh goarr lol ^

We got one of the digital meters in the last few years too. Just walk out and watch it and all it saying is 71,506 kwh. Nothing else.

The entire house has the energy saving bulbs. Only things plugged in right through is the basic appliances. One desktop w/ UPS, small tv, not flat screen. Cant think of anything else.

T&TEC is the worst. these bill amounts really are ridiculous, how the average joe could afford to have current know is beyond me.
this is madness to the highest. Jack needs to do something about this when he gets into power.

lower wattage, but you'll be sacrificing lumens basically. 6 watt led 500 Lumens vs 13watt CFL 800 lumens. Makes sense here, because we have alot of lights.

But they're much more expensive and you're getting less light. So if you used 2/3 the number of CFL bulbs as per LED then the lighting would be the same, power would be almost the same and it would cost 1/7th the price.

^they work up about the same in bulk pete. Plus the E14's LED's are even cheaper than the CFL's

To the topic
old appliances, fridges, acs, freezers, water pump, water heaters do burn excess current
there efficiency is greatly reduced over time, research power factor
Also turn off the main breaker and see if u meter spinning u getting theif

Electrical jumbie usage is a common problem in rural parts of the country.

Somehow, electricity could go up by me and the meter would still register usage.

No its the digital one lol. If I do turn off the breaker later, would there be any indication on the digital meter to let me know if anything still being used?

I can vouch for this. Our bill used to average between $ 350 - $ 400 per billing cycle. Traced it back to an 11 year old refrigerator with a leaking gasket and a leaking check valve on the water mains which was causing the water pump to run more often.

After correcting the issues, bill now averages between $ 200 - $ 225 per cycle.

On every bill its an "actual" reading. NO estimates. I going to be watching that meter like a hawk now and doing some tests yes.
