Funny how things turn out.

Jimmie Johnson wins and ties Dale Earnhardt Sr. for wins at the track where he had his last non-restrictor plate win and beat the guy that won the first race for the rechristened #3 again at the same track.

Tense racing last couple of laps (as expected)

Who would've thought Dale Jr would've come back to finish 2nd?

Great finishes for several teams in the top-10/20 today.

Bristol was a real surprise for lots of teams... Glad my boy Carl got it.

Hoping to see Joey take a checkered before this chase begins.

Also nice to see the rookies and the not so usuals at the top

Breaking News

After missing the first eight races of the Sprint Cup season with a fractured back, Tony Stewart will return to the No. 14 Chevrolet this weekend at Richmond International Raceway.

During a series of interviews Wednesday morning for a media availability, Stewart had said he felt great but was waiting on the results of back scans “at the end of the month” to evaluate the progress of his healing. The results of those scans were favorable.

The three-time Sprint Cup champion revealed the news in a series of tweets Thursday morning.

Tony Stewart wrote:Well, the long wait is over. I'll be back in my @Mobil1 Chevy this weekend at Richmond. I can't wait to race again #SmokeWillRise

The Dr's said my scans "looked much better than they thought they would after 3 months". So they cleared me #SmokeWillRise

Ty Dillon wrote:I can't thank @tonystewart and @stewarthaasracing , @bassproshops for the opportunity to drive for such a great organization Tony and his team have done so much for me as a driver in believing in me and coaching me wile filling in. Tony's fans are gonna be very pleased with this team and I'm ready to finish out strong with them in @talladegasupers #thankstony #smokewillrise

Ryan Blaney wrote:Welcome back Smoke. Looking forward to racing with you @TonyStewart

Justin Allgaier wrote:Wow!!! @TonyStewart just broke Twitter! Glad to have you back racing! Wasn't the same watching without ya.

& NASCAR giveth and taketh away

Earlier NASCAR granted a waiver for Stewart much like they did last year for Kyle Busch, in that he must win a race and be in the top 30 in points in order to qualify for the Chase

Now word that NASCAR has fined Stewart & Stewart Haas Racing $35,000 for his remarks yesterday concerning NASCAR's lack of policing pit crews using less than 5 lug nuts on the cars in time saving efforts.

---

Honestly though, I agree with what he was saying.

Rumors of German auto giant Audi taking an interest in NASCAR have circulated this week. A sudden wave of speculation fostered by a NASCAR.com reporter and various websites have positioned the Le Mans-winning Volkswagen Audi Group brand as the fourth manufacturer to join Chevy, Ford, and Toyota in Sprint Cup, but according to Audi of America, the rumors are unfounded.

"We will continue to focus our efforts on racing in IMSA/PWC, WEC (above) and DTM," an AoA spokesman told RACER. "There are no considerations to enter NASCAR by Audi."

Audi has also been the subject of rumors regarding an entry into Formula 1 in recent years. Those assertions have also been shot down by VAG.

No driver hates to lose... I don't particularly like how Carl nudged Rowdy, but that's racing. But I know for sure Kyle's going to watch Carl and hold a little less trust towards him.

But as I was saying when I saw it... Let's use the fact that they both won earlier in the year... already locked in the chase... and... instead of Busch & Edwards... it was Matt & Joey...

could you imagine the drama afterwards?

BUT!!!

my FAV track coming up next week...

If Carl was not his teammate, early fireworks. Knowing Kyle though he was internally pissed, much like earlier in the year when his tyre blew out in an Xfinity Series race he was well on his way to winning.

Honestly it's just a matter of how long until the rain stops the race. At least that's how it looks.

Almost had a situation there with baseball messing up NASCAR coverage.

Now with that out of the way, night racing.

I think I woke up the neighbors cheering Joey Logano on... crazy rules had everyone confused.

Question though: Does the winner get a chase spot locked? There was some debate to this...

Sounds like I missed well.... something. Looks like Brad's format was mostly a bust.

Nah, this is an exhibition race like the Sprint Unlimited so Joey is still not locked into the Chase (win-wise anyway).
