Hope you are remembered for all the good things you did for our nation (and we forget the bad ones, everyone makes mistakes).

Regardless of your political persuasion one must admit that Mr. Manning was a statesman and a man of class in his public conduct, something lacking in many these days. May he RIP.

Manning told his wife: I know I’m dying

Image

Days before his passing, former prime minister Patrick Manning told his wife he knew he was dying. Hazel Manning said his tone was one of calm and acceptance when he told her so last Wednesday, his third day of being warded at the San Fernando General Hospital. The following day he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
Mrs Manning, who spoke with reporters outside her Sumadh Gardens home in Vistabella this morning, said it had been a difficult few days. She said Manning had a dental procedure done and it went very well but he got very weak after than.
“I thought it was because of the medication and he couldn't eat for about a day or so,” she said.
“When it became a bit difficult for him to move around on Monday we called Dr Kantapersad Ramcharan who advised me to take him to the hospital.”
Manning was disgnosed with an infection in his right lung and his blood count was low.
He was in a jovial mood, laughing and chatting and making jokes on Tuesday and Wednesday, she said. On Thursday he was diagnosed and told he would need to undergo treatment for chemotherapy. There was still concern about his low blood count and the infection in his lung was getting worse.
Mrs Manning said: “On Wednesday night he asked what was happening and said, 'I know I am dying’.”
At 3 am on Saturday Manning’ss condition worsened and he was sedated.
“The hospital called me at about 6 am because his vital signs had started to deteriorate and he was breathing with the aid of a machine. My son David and I were with him when he passed,” she said.
Mrs Manning said Prime Minister Keith Rowley called her offering a state funeral which she accepted. The funeral is tentatively set for next Saturday at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Port-of-Spain. Viewing of the body will take place on Thursday and Friday at the South Academy of the Performing Arts (SAPA) and the North Academy of the Performing Arts (NAPA) respectively.

Apparently you're having problems distinguishing between political differences and matters of reverence in the face of life and death.

its never a good thing when someone dies... what is left behind is a legacy and prob their assets.....manning's legacy was one of corruption and fueling deep ethnic division....

Apparently you're having problems distinguishing hypocrisy. Claiming to be the cause and then gloating over someone's debilitating illness is "political differences"? You all really would try to defend anything Rowley does, not matter how sickening.

He went off the rails to the end of his last term as PM, but he was alright.
He was one smood looker in the 90's though.

This is truly a time for reflection given the opinions we may have individually formed about Mr Mannings impact and contribution.
I certainly am saddened by his passing and feel compelled to wish be does find a place of piece.
My inner being is being guided by the saying 'he who is without fault' is the only one with the right to cast the first stone (especially at this time).
There is no question in my mind that Mr Manning has made many positive contributions to our development and the missteps cant change this simple fact.
Forgiveness, respect and compassion are maybe the appropriate humane sentiments at this time.

I think we all as a nation have forgiven Mr. Manning for the ills he metered out onto the nation in the final reign as prime minister.
Everytime i think of this quote i associate it with Mr. Manning.... "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely".

The sad thing, the present crop of politicians on both side of the fence think there are immune to death.

RIP
