digicel coverage in barbados?

Postby 007_1 » July 25th, 2012, 10:32 pm

I'm going Barbados to breeze ah little and was wondering whether or not my blackberry unlimited plan would work without any additional charges. Planning on renting a car and doing some sight seeing and was thinking about using blackberry maps.

Anyone have an idea whether or not I'll be charged additional rates and if blackberry maps would work there?

when I went last month, it roamed for maybe just a day or two then lost signal. When it worked it worked fine. (calls, data, etc) I don't know why it didn't stay connected for the whole time.

you should check/call digicel to confirm.

best bet is to get a prepaid sim over at B'dos and use that.

piggyback on any open wifi to get caught up if data keep dropping, even & especially while roaming.
Had a friend go Las Vegas last year. she got a cheap US phone for voice calls, and BB worked fine with mobile signal switched off, and wifi on.

That's what I did :)
what was weird was, I had signal sometimes..and other times I didn't.

Barbados has the most roads per sqkm than any country in the Caribbean.

Use Bajan Nav
http://accu-nav.com/spaces/

you can use it on a Garmin or on a smart phone - it's free to try while you are there.

Blackberry maps will seem like a crayon drawing to this and this is free where BB maps will incur data charges. If you dont have a Garmin device, you can rent one from the car rental place, most likely they will install Bajan Nav on it for you anyways.

I was there recently and for some reason our digicel phones were not getting a signal.
Bmobile worked on the lime network.

But if you're thinking about it primarily for the maps, then you might want to consider renting a GPS device from the car rental company. I know its a small island but GPS navigation really comes in handy, especially for sightseeing and with the number of roundabouts there.
