Which air freshener would you say smells the closest to an actual new car interior? Most of the air fresheners that say "new car smell" don't smell anything like inside a new car, or is it impossible to create an air freshener like that?

New car smell is actually a bad thing. It's the smell of factory fresh plastic and other volatile chemicals they used to treat the car's interior (VOCs) still in the outgassing phase, going into your lungs.

If you want to prolong that plastic smell, just throw plastic from new appliances, or electronics/computer parts under the seat.

If the car has a fabric interior do a thorough cleaning with Scotchguard and a bucket of water. It's not safe for use on plastics but clean everything else: seats doors, roof liner, seat belts etc. You'd be surprised what comes out, especially from the driver's seat.

Everything looks brighter and the odors are gone...

^I'm no expert on Scotchgard, but as far as i am aware its a protector and not a cleaner-otherwise it would have likely been called Scotchclean.

Anyways whats the deal with 'new car smell'? I change every few years and to be honest that smell seems to vary from manufacturer to manufacture and all of them after a few farts they all smell the same to me.

Also what may smell new/nice to you may really smell bad to others as your nose gets used to the smell in the car you start using more air freshener- best thing to do is just rotate any mild smelling ones and everyone happy

Cheap hack is to leave an open box of gain or any other good brand dryer sheets on back dash , you’ll have that freshly done laundry scent for weeks in your car
