Hi all, just posting a few updates on the system. Its been two weeks since planting. The photos below are some from this morning and a few days before. The seedlings included romaine lettuce, cabbage, chive, parsley and thyme. Decided to go with some regular crops since this was the first trial.

So far growth has been ok I think, considering i'm a novice grower. I have a few spots in the system remaining so I will probably add regular lettuce.

After week 1 the nutrient solution/water mix depleted to about half in the bucket. So there was alot of evaporation taking place. I refreshed the system at that point adding new nutrient solution to water mixture. I'm not certain if it was required to replaced the water or just top up. But I figured since I would probably have a hard time knowing how much nutrient solution to add, I should just mix a fresh batch. Thoughts?

So far i've lost one pot with thyme. Looks like it's on the way out. One lettuce looks the same. Other than that two cabbages suffered caterpillar attacks (diamond back moth I think). Noticed it one evening when I was trying to figure out what the holes in the leaves were about. When I flipped the leaf over I saw the culprit (should have taken a pic). I manually removed them and washed the plants out ensuring they were bug free. Will see how they recover.

Will post more updates as time goes by.

Looks good.
I use a ppm meter to measure Conductivity
Every formula tells you the recommended ppm to use for a particular plant whether seedling or mature plant. When you measure the ppm you just top up the formula instead of throwing it out.
For example the formula I use for herbs says that for seedlings it should be 1350 ppm + source water and mature plants should be 1500 ppm + source water.
I also use a ph meter, its been a while since I planted anything but I only just washed out my tote system that I built a while back and some seedlings that I germinated will be going in by Friday.

Try Sugarcane Feeds Centre in longdenville. 665-9967. They're not really a supplier but when they have extra stock they will sell it out. GL.

Total farm and Agro supplies in limehead road chase village usually has but you should be able to acquire it at most feed shops. Nfm brand is good but there is a guy somewhere in Freeport area with a fish farm, think the name is Kent Farms, he sells a different feed from nfm and I think it's supposed to be a better quality in terms of nutrition.

Finally got time to put in some work over the last few weeks. System is coming together at last.

Decided to scale it back a bit for now so the layout is half the original size.

Nothing has been glued together yet, just fit together and I'll adjust as needed.

Excuse the mess/pic quality. Just used my phone after I finished for the night.

1 Tank
2 Grow Beds
1 Sump

Electrical housing mounted on the front of the tank. We've had heavy rain pretty much every day since it was mounted and the inside has stayed dry so its working well so far. Wiring has been run through the conduit, just to connect it to the outlets and secure them in the housing.

Uniseals in and piping run for the SLO and Overflow lines.

Pump is in the sump and connected to the input line. Tested briefly and the pressure is great so far.

Next steps this week :

Build/Test Siphons
Fish tank cover
Secure Piping to frame
Finish electrical / SLO inlets / Growbed inlets
