I got 2 feed bags from Grande side but they were cold and wet, so still looking around if anyone has a good source I can get from on a frequent basis.

That Gravity Series Grill looks interesting btw BUG ^^

Yeah the Gravity Series are my dream grill. Low & slow, smoking, high temp searing, grilling, all over wood fire or charcoal with a digital temp controller. No auger like in a pellet grill that gets all gummed up or jammed. Hope there's someone distributing locally!

I built a stumps smoker clone over 10yrs ago which uses gravity feed charcoal system

you need to have consistent sized pieces of charcoal, not too big and def not too small or they either fall thru or choke up.

I also owned a weber smokey mountain prior to that

What did you think of the WSM? I've heard they need a few modifications to get the best out of them?

doesn’t need any mods well except drilling a hole in the top to put a thermometer

it is a fantastic charcoal smoker
only thing is you have a a water pan to cleanup

Upgrades are optional Based on use of 14” & 18”

Upgrades that ppl consider are

1) sealing of door with gasket - most smoker forums advise that minor smoke loss is acceptable. I have used as is without any issues

2) thermometer at meat level - I use the lid thermometer only and just know temp at meat is hotter. Most meat forums advise 15 - 20 degs

3) placing of sand in water pan instead of water - no issues with 18” using water. For 14” I limited qty of water to achieve hotter temp

4) lid hinge - this is a reference - I have not installed any

5) base with wheels so it can be mobile . Required for 22”

6) usb thermometer with meat probes - not required for smokes less than 3 hrs

7) pizza stone

8) motorized fan with temp probe. Keeps temp constant .

9) meat racks e.g. ribs or drum sticks

10) good pair of heat resistant gloves

11) chimney for lighting coals - this is mandatory

yeah the rib racks is a good addition along with chimney
the weber chimney is excellent quality, mine still in top condition from 2004

my gravity feed stumps style smoker is the one in back left with red gasket on door.

Thanks for the info. So where's the best place to buy the WSM and the rib rack / fan etc? Best charcoal / wood for the WMS?

Best place to buy WSM locally is peakes
Accessories locally can be purchased at peakes, Bhagwansingh and William h Scott

Due to forex issues ; some places may be out of stock . So you need to call around

I use to buy wood and charcoal ( lump hardwood) in bhagwansingh

However bhagwansingh stop importing the lump charcoal

I am will long to learn what ppl are using

It is real ketch ass if you get the wrong coals

How do you compare WSM vs propane smoker

No difference, at least with my smoker.

the lpg burner is aimed at a little basket which I put the chunks of wood in and burns them there.
So it still gets the proper smoke taste.

I have been told electric smokers have slightly diff taste as there is no real combustion and no smoke ring as the pink ring is due to the combustion smoke.

One day I plan to build a proper reverse flow with water pan
those are supposed to be the purest type of smokers

That is correct
Check the Lang smokers - he made reverse flow popular

BUG, I checked that exact review after you posted about it, lol! He really did cover it in good detail and the features seem nice for the price. I think you'd be lucky as hell if anyone had that locally though.

I was eyeing this charcoal grill from Yoder Smokers. It doesn't have some of those features as the Gravity but it's built like a fricking tank. They have an extremely versatile pellet grill/smoker too, the Yoder YS640 with similar features as the gravity if you want to check it out. They're very pricey though, but can go through a world war with that build quality.

Is importing a Masterbuilt from the States a viable option? How much do you think it might cost?

Wow! When you said the Yoder was built like a tank you weren't kidding!

Viable or not, sadly it may be the only way if there isn't a supplier down here. If you know people who ship containers regularly, see if you can bum some space and try to save a few $ somehow. If not, then all that's left is to ocean freight it in yourself.

I've never had to use an ocean freight service though. I believe they use physical dimensions to determine the cost rather than solely the weight of the item? Guys in the Skybox thread might be able to assist.

Build one.

No need to import.

I custom built my smoker a few years ago using samples off the internet and most importantly, feldon's calculator for smokers. Google the latter and you will get some good details that will help you to build one.

Lots of resources are available on YouTube to help build a good grill or smoker.

Also, you don't need to spend a fortune to get a good grill or smoker. You can use a Weber kettle grill (or similar) very effectively to grill and to smoke. There are lots of those out there.

Plus if you are new to grilling or its your first time buying a grill, consider a cheaper "starter" grill to get you going and to help you develop the skills.

Build an ugly drum smoker and learn with that
They are close to a Weber Smokey mountain in performance

Char-griller just released their gravity grill. Looks very similar to the MBGS. Any Char-griller distributors in the country?

On the website it says their only international retailers are located in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Any google search for "Char-griller trinidad" just yielded Char-broil results so you may be sheit out of luck unfortunately.

You built a gravity fed grill with a digital temp controller that can be controlled via phone app with the ability to switch from low and slow smoking temp (225f) to searing temp (700f+) in under 10 minutes?

If so, can you build me one please?!

no phone app but digital pid temp controller with fan to blow on coals

i don’t think that chargriller will reach those temps for searing
will be a total waste of fuel as gravity feed design not practical for grilling temps
only smoking temps

That's a very very cool build, I know I would never have the skill to build something like that!

On the searing, I can't speak for the chargriller but the searing efficiency is one of the reasons the MBGS is just so good! 700f temps and not a insane increase in fuel consumption:

it doesn’t make sense because good searing of a steak uses a radiant heat which requires direct close proximity
if you remove radiant heat it will take forever to get up to those temps
