Online purchase tax alone for I assuming a $300 watch is close to that value but with aeropost customs in full swing

Bought on Amazon and did not pre-alert, so no invoice was attached

Yes, I know two people who brought in an SE and a Series 6 respectively
Charge from WebSource was around TT$275 each including shipping, duty, OPT and VAT

Smart watch

I want to believe customs sees a regular watch as a luxury item and a smart watch as an electronic item or even a computer.
I can't say for sure.
But give the amounts I am hearing various people paying I can assume that is the case.

MacBook Air with M1 chip beats 16-inch MacBook Pro performance in benchmark test
Filipe Espósito - Nov. 11th 2020 5:17 pm PT

https://9to5mac.com/2020/11/11/macbook-air-with-m1-chip-beats-16-inch-macbook-pro-performance-in-benchmark-test/

Apple introduced its first Macs with the Apple Silicon “M1” chip, which brings the ARM architecture to the Mac with improved performance and energy efficiency. While the company said that the M1 chip is more powerful than most PC processors, a new benchmark test revealed that the new MacBook Air with M1 chip can beat all models of the 16-inch MacBook Pro with Intel processors.

Earlier today, an independent analysis from AnandTech argued that the M1 chip in fact has the potential to be the fastest laptop CPU on the market, and the new benchmark results seem to prove this. The new MacBook Air with M1 chip scored 1687 in single-core and 7433 in multi-core tests.

For comparison, the higher-end 16-inch MacBook Pro model with an Intel Core i9 processor scores 1096 single-core and 6870 multi-core. The fact that the M1 chip in a MacBook Air was able to perform better than an Intel Core i9 processor in both single-core and multi-core seems extremely promising.

The benchmark results also revealed that the M1 8-core chip has a base frequency of 3.2GHz, while the 8-core Intel Core i9 processor found in the 16-inch MacBook Pro runs at 2.3GHz with Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz.

There are also other interesting comparisons that can be made with these results. For instance, the M1 chip delivers performance similar to the 2019 Mac Pro entry-level model — at least based on Geekbench results. Mac Pro scores 1024 in single-core and 7989 in multi-core. The numbers also confirm that the M1 chip is faster than any chip ever made by Apple for iPhone or iPad.

Apple says the M1 chip is the same for all Mac models updated this week, which includes MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini. However, both MacBook Pro and Mac mini have an internal fan while MacBook Air doesn’t, which can help these other two models deliver even better sustained performance.

Now it’s only a matter of time before similar tests are performed with the new M1 MacBook Pro and Mac mini.

Yeah it’s a harsh reality.
Only thing is as it’s my wife’s own, she won’t make an issue because it’s 100 times better than what she had.

Depends, but I think Apple might always maintain an intel line for developers until there's perfect comparability, best of both worlds for most people. The ARM M1 is great for the average user though.

Have you seen the videos? The M1 is much faster
I guess we will see in upcoming benchmarks

I have, and I do believe. But I'm concerned about things like VM Docker compatibility and legacy apps.

I do feel in 3 or 4 years apple might discontinue support for x86.

Only if others have similar experiences from shipping the watch in thru other skybox companies with being charged around the same amount, then I’ll believe it.
Sorry to say, but customs are too inconsistent for me to believe that. I would expect at least a 4-digit figure to clear it.

***secretly hopes it is true they classify it as a computer though.

Apple M1 benchmarks are insane for what is essentially entry level Apple laptops. Hardly makes any sense to purchase intel based MacBooks unless it’s for a niche program that’s unsupported on Apple silicon.

Rosetta 2 is an intermediate solution for now
The native M1 apps will do much better and with using a lot less power and battery

Agreed. That Rosetta 2 performance beats x86 is particularly impressive. I wouldn’t buy an intel based Mac anytime soon if I could wait for the M# version.

This is just insane, I think we always knew Apple silicon in the iPhones and iPads were fast but I'm just stumped at how this SoC is performing.

One issue but it's probably a short term issue is that it doesn't support dedicated GPUs just yet which is what lots of people want on the MBP16s.

I assume that will come eventually, they can remove the iGPU (if possible) replace the 4 low powered cores with 4 high power cores on that M1 add more ram and damn we'd have one hell of a machine.

If it's already tearing through video and photo editing and 3D modeling then most users wouldnt need a dedicated GPU on a Mac

ok so i switched my address on apple to a USA address and it updated on the device itself

hint : download and install itunes and sign in - change your credentials on itunes and let the change propagate to the device.
the device does not need to be connected to the pc for this to happen .

so i'm officially on the USA apps store now .

going to buy a simple 10 usd and see if it works .

will relay results.

EDIT special thanks to tuner stev for his assistance and VPN use ... 8-)
