Reason why turntables can sound so nice and natural is that second harmonics is really natural to our world. When things vibrate like flexing panels etc. They create second order harmonics.
A lot of turntable "sound" is really vibration control and resonances. When you hear a guitar (acoustic) it's second harmonics. Tubes can vibrate through microphonics etc. So you see we are born into a world of second harmonics. That is why musicians probably generally like tubes/ Transistors and digital is strewn with odd order harmonics. Hence even though the levels are very low, they sound unnatural in a way though they measure much better in an objective sense.
