Most have 3 wires. Some have two. And some have one.

The alt has the wires labeled with a sticker.

S means signal. Need battery current via a fused link

L is the battery light. Sends positive but when the Alt bad sends negative.

Some carries a ground, mostly on older nissans.

Thanks
I am switching the alternator (qg) which is 2 pin labelled l and s to a tiida alternator which is labelled l,s and c.
Do I leave the c pin disconnected and connect the l and s?

On the drawing, u have 1 which represents c on the plug in for the tidda. Correct me if am wrong, the 1 goes to a ground? I did this install yesterday, connected the l and s same as your diagram and I left out the c, I got a check engine light though. My y11 just has l and s on the harness. Is c going on one of those wires on the l and s y11 harneas or should I make a designated ground for the c on the tidda?

I don’t think the ‘c’ pin was connected. I had it on a GA15.
The service manual doesn’t even make mention of it either.

I can’t remember if I tried messing with the ‘c’ pin, but 14v and above should be good. Try looking at the impact it has on your load (current) when grounding or not.

Well yesterday I had it with the c disconnected. It started with 14.2 and when warmed up it went to 13.7. When I connected the c wire to the ground, it started 14.5 and warmed up to 13.9. The music in my car isn't heavy at all, so I bearly even get voltage drop before, but I just did the tidda alt as a precaution
