Atomic Question!

Postby -Roach- » July 1st, 2012, 8:30 am

Bought A 15" ELE From A Guy... (Just For The Motor And Basket - Ordering 2 New Kits)... And I Already Had Another Motor From Before.... Seems As Though The Motor I Had Before Is From The Older Line Of Atomic... The One I Bought Recently Has An "Extended Pole"...

Image

^Just Like The One In This Pic... (Bottom Of The Motor)....

And The Other Motor I Had From Before Is FLAT At The Bottom...

If I Use 2 Of These Would They Play/Move Different Or Require Different Tuning?... Ordering The Same Dual 2-Ohm Kit For Both (3" Coils)... Baskets Are The Same... Magnets Are The Same... Just The Bottom Different....

You could probably call Steve's, I know they were selling off some atomic parts recently, and would probably know what fits what.
I vaguely remember someone trying to order recones, and atomic needed to know the motor version (not only the model of the sub) in order to provide it.

I know the extended pole piece is done to increase the excursion capability of the woofer. I not sure, but I doubt it will affect the t/s specs by much..

i ended up with a similar problem was going to run a pair of dd 3512's bt one was a d series and the other a e series. spoke to triple r and a few speaker builders and i got the same response. they both were saying that one sub would move a little bit different from the other. i sold the subs because of this.

Wouldn't a longer coil mean different spider/ suspention?

the one with the extended back plate would have better excursion capability

as is less chance of the coil hitting the back plate on high excursion,

the different motor structures wont affect the specs on the motors

i dont think coil possibly hitting the back plate should be an issue on the one without an extended pole piece or any for the matter becasue there is only so much an 8 inch spider could allow.

u shud have nothing to worry about

Yeah, but that's assuming the extended back plate is the only change. I'm not sure it is, though. OP any word from Steve's/Atomic?

Nah pal I know you is a competition man, thought this system u was building to compete with. Just telling you it wont make sense.. you know what I mean.

For others .. what qualifies me to say that? Well we have the two loudest double 15 in Trinidad now, so chill.

What I'am concerned about is the 8 small cooling holes on the extended pole,,,,,the one with the extended pole maybe able to cool down better and faster,,,,I wanted to high light this because I'am not sure if the sub without the extended pole have these cooling vents,,,,,jus something you could look into.

The Flat Motor Has A Much Larger Hole At The Bottom... No Smaller Holes Though...

Question... Do The APX And ELE Carry The Same Motor?....

Afaik, they update motors within the same model. So an ELE of year X is not the same motor as an ELE of year Y.

Yea Hence The Reason They Have The Flat Model And Extended Pole Model...

But I Looked At Their Website And The Motor On The ELE And APX Look Identical So I Was Wondering...
