MTX audio install

Postby noyztoyz » March 14th, 2010, 12:56 am

Gonna get a new install on the way, expected time of completion is by next weekend or 2.
This system is being designed for dread street bass, with a strong low line under 40hz,

Cant let Kris (southside connections) be alone dropping lows, and boasting serious 35hz and under, with his BTLs and fancy boxes, some1 needs to take him out! :2gunfire: :2gunfire:

Gonna use 3 subs
MTX 9512s, they supposed to take good beating, but i never used them before. so i dunno how they work in different enclosures

<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010694.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010694.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010695.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010695.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010696.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010696.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010698.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010698.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Will be done in a semi wall with a trunk box tuned to.. (not sure yet)
Was hoping to get it wedged to fit nicely the slope of the car, but the magnet width in these is too much to permit an enough angle. This pic shows the most you can get, like 10 degrees

<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010697.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010697.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

So will most likely be done straight up

SUbs will be run off vv which means each will be able to see 3000rms or the most they can take, whichever comes first.
Im really trying to be optimistic with this amp.

<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010700.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010700.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Was contemplating using this slab of 1" thick plexi as the back of the box but i dont want to cut it, ill keep for the next install where it will definitely be needed.
It would have made a very pretty install though .

<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010699.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010699.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Mids gonna be 2 12s run off non else but

<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010704.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010704.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Drivers gonna be either pair, i havent decided yet

<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010701.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010701.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

To keep drivers from blowing and to get them playing loud and cleeeeaaann you need one of these or a close alternative

<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010703.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010703.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/?action=view¤t=P1010702.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff58/noyztoyz/P1010702.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I not gonna post pics of the enclosure work. When you see it done, remember you seen it here first!

Was wondering though, it this were your equipment doing an install in your vehicle what would u tune to? So make sure and vote!

ALSO if anyone used these subs before post from experience their power handling etc.. so i may take it into account for the build.. :D

it's a tough call between 35 and 38Hz.. but for gallery use, 38Hz is a good mix of loud / low imo..

i would start at 35Hz and if they not getting loud enough, you can just shorten the port to raise the tuning...

personally heard a a pair of these 12's tuned to 33hz failed miserably so the 32hz out fuh sure..and if you wanna get some lows in the mix then that would rule out the 40hz and up tuning..lol.although i heard a 15 tuned to 4ohz and it was damn loud.the guy had a vr2000 on it so id say it takes a 2500rms comfortably.

ok i just looked back in some logs i had from previous use-

38hz seems to be the best point for these speakers, coupled with a medium to large box and you good to go

could do it short to 38hz and for daily can add on an extra piece of port externally? I think i saw fuzz with some like this already.

if i were you i would do some like 30-32hz, because all i like is LOUD LOWS, but if you want a rell good mix i think that 36-37 area is where you lookin at. Tuned 2 MTX 7500 10s there and they sounded very bess with just 1800rms on the pair. So i cant imagine what 3 12, and 7000rms will sound like.

hey when you done this i want a personal demo, BTW you carrying it tobago ah wha, i see you wanna finish in a few weeks.

once its for gallery and you lookin at loud with a present low end then 38hz is best imo.

i wuda tune to a flat 30Hz... u have 7000Wrms and about 4" of excursion on ur side...if the final choice was between 38Hz and 35Hz....... i'd say 35.... everybody have that 38-42hz bassline...

a 38hz would do a good gallery, but 98% of this system's use would be on the street/personal,
and i run epicentre, so i would like the lower tuning.
the sub has a fs of 36hz.
was gonna tune it to 36 self but still deciding,

never knew this would be such a hard decision :(

seems like from the poll the majority would tune 35 though, which is a good sign, ppl still loving the lowwws!

hey if you plan on rocking the epi in them tune as low as possible to avoid bottoming out, or you can build a interchangable port system in your box to change between the car show and low bass tunings.

For all of you that commented on the sound of these subs tuned to xHz, how did you know that they were actually tuned to that particular Fb? Was this confirmed by actual measurement?

Bear in mind that Fb can be affected by not only the length and cross section of a vent, but also its geometry, and the proximity of the vent's entrance and exit to nearby objects (internal walls, trunk wall, etc.).

i dunno i dunno we gonna do a 36hz and see how it works,

is non to just shorten the port after if we need to,
but i need that lows more than bess performance in a gallery,

and the poll shows 35hz beating 38hz! guess it have plenty lowbass-heads round here :D
