Need help with speaker choice...

Postby DooMRR » March 12th, 2010, 2:03 am

Trying to decide on an 18" subwoffer for daily use. My choices are:

SoundStream XXX-18
http://www.soundstream.com/AudioProduct ... rs/xxx.htm

Atomic APXX18
http://www.atomicspeakers.com/apx_apxx18.html

Fi BTL18
https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraudio. ... shopscript

DC Audio Level 5 18"
http://www.dcsoundlab.com/specs.html

RE MT 18"
http://reaudio.com/specs.html#sp_mt

Tuning will be around 35Hz as I want some loud/low bass.
All these subs are around the $6500 price range.
I am also open to other suggestions.

i like DC Audio, and the RE MT, think about it, be a little different, everyone running atomic and DD these days, and the MT and the DC are the 2 subs that really have the potential to put them to shame, the DC will give you some serious lows is you want dread.

Like lows to destroy your car literally, not jokin>

you can also add the incriminator audio death penalty 21" (DAIZ WHAT I WOULD GO WITH, I DO NOT THINK ANYONE DOWN HERE IS RUNNING THOSE AT ALL, BE THE FIRST DRED)

had a discussion about this yest in training

too many people market the wrong product for daily applications
spl subs are just what it means spl
and when they fail when used for daily playing people either question the product of claim they had too much power on it

check the manufacturers specs and what application the sub was made for and i am sure a few options can be knocked off that list

yes but the dealer of re in trini can order the re mt factory modified for daily playing.if you goin with the mt get this one it will be very loud..imo all those subs can get crazy loud once a proper box is built.why not add a treo ssx to the mix as well as the tsns t3 audio.

cvt-7_RR,
choice also depends on ow much power u have to run, assuming u have an amp already

SR, I did a little research... this gets really interesting....these are some quotes about these speakers from their sites...

atomic Apxx 18 - "Super Extreme SPL competition Woofer."

Fi Btl - "the exact sub you need to fuel your SPL fire."

Re audio Mt - "Designed for a single sonic goal: “To be the ultimate in SPL.""

so far these smell spl....

then...

Dc level 5 - "extreme amounts of output for the SPL lanes but reliable enough for a high-powered daily system."

treo ssx - "the most insane street bass woofer ever developed"

soundstream XXX- description seems similar to that of the dc audio level 5.

Kicker solo X- seems to be a very high powered daily.....

....

so i am wondering why people are using the spl subs for daily applications?....

and which would be the best for a high powered street bass system?....

dj cas, that's why i suggested the solo x, these subs are loud and capable of taking a daily beating, the treo is also very loud and reliable, take a walk through any speaker repair shop and look at the plethora of spl subs suffering from burnt coils waiting to be repaired. The majority of the time this is due to wrong sub for application or poorly designed enclosure, very small percentage are due to overpowering.

The max rms rating for a spl sub is not the typical power that these sub will be able to handle on a consistent basis, more directed to short burps.

the xxx soundstream and the solox 18 kicker will be on a different level than the Fi btl and the treo ssx, the first 2 will take much more power,
the MT and the APXX are really spl things, with very low sound quality. They dont even have specs!

Never really heard a solo x...or a xxx.....hmm.... which of the two would sound more impressive? and any official dealers for both? because i got ripped of from buying from unofficial people and just wanted to know for future reference...thanks...cvt-7_RR, hope you see things clearer now....

dj cas, i am partially more inclined to the kicker due to personal preference, i believe they may be louder too.

madaz, that's the answer to the mats jugg, spl speaker still

sub is for the 4 door pickup Rovin..

the buyer is looking for a loud and reliable woofer.. something that can take some abuse.. that's the reason why the APXX is in the list..

the MT is out because that is a pure SPL driver.. the APXX can be used for some daily play but lacks in quality.

the T3 TSNS is out because of price

The RE XXX is out because he wants loud as well..

The Soundstream XXX / DC level 5 and Fi BTL is mainly in the running imo..

the DC and Fi are conservatively rated at 2000Wrms..

the SS XXX is rated at 8500Wrms, so i figure that will need ALOT of power to get loud compared to the others..

no amp is bought as yet, owner initially wanted to get an Atomic 5000D...

like no one read this

lets stay away from what the "marketing says" or all these opinions from ppl trying to sell u things

let look at the specs for the subs so we can discuss facts

that is just very lazy if a manufacturer cant run a little woofer tester 3 and give us some theiles

Sundown nightshade or "z". Both built as SQL woofers.

if 18 size, any of those subs will handle an atomic 5000, he could buy any, but if is more power he want to drop, like if his ride could maintain a 5000 rms constant bass power, he SS XXX i know will take it,
dont know much about the DC but it looks mean as well,

the solo x will take the 5000 as well and should be louder than the rest due to more cone area

the decision lies in what bass amp he is using, and how much power his electrical system allows him to output.
