WTK Need advice on choosing 6.5" components

Postby TRINI 2 » September 5th, 2006, 10:17 pm

I'm looking to spend US$200 on a set of 6.5" components. I'm gonna be using a JL AUDIO 300/4 Slash Series amplifier to power the components.
I need some advice on a descent sounding component set. I live away, ordering online will not be a problem.

I was doing some research and came up with a few

DLS MS6A 6.5" 2-WAY COMPONENT SPEAKERS
DLS R6A 6.5" 2-WAY COMPONENT SPEAKERS
CDT Audio CL-61A-25 PRO
POLK AUDIO DB6500

well the slash series 300/4 is roughly 75w X 4@ 4 ohms
go with JL's VR650CSi you will not be disappointed

go with the DLS whichever one fits your budget

if you can get the PS6A they sound fantastic for the price range compared to higher priced separates

i have the Polk Audio Momo 6.5" components in my Probe GT with a Planet Audio 200 X 4 RMS amplifier. Very clean sound with very hard hitting mid-bass drivers.

Also check out Rockford Fosgate Punch Series 6.5" components (P162S). They retail for around $200.00 a set. Here's some pics of what we did in a 1997 Chevrolet truck in custom fiberglass panels....

Take a listen to Diamond Audio components - Once they get the right power they sound excellent and can be used at high volumes while still maintaining excellent sound quality. You should find a shop up there or find someone to get a demo - try the D6 model as its their middle line.
