Insurance Claim for car not in your name

Postby Msanne » October 25th, 2019, 5:14 pm

So im currently "work to owning" a car , i have about 4 and a half months left to pay off. The insurance is in the legal owner name since i couldnt get it on mine. Last week a man ran into me making a uturn. Hes clearly wrong insurance already called and made an offer but the owner doesnt have a bir number and ie cant get a vat status letter. I explained to him that any insurance company requires this and this is whatd keeping me back from.getting my money but hes self employ "ph driver " and hesitant cause he have to file taxes to get the number. Has anyone been or heard of this situation can i get some advice please. Thank u

as is he stands to lose on repairs to the car, and you stand to lose use of the car.

If he was ever an employee, he'd have a BIR #,
If he can't remember it, https://www.finance.gov.tt/services/inc ... umber/#how
with that in hand, the VAT status letter is easy.

OP tell him it doesn’t matter if he filed taxes or not , everyone is entitled to a BIR number. It’s literally a very short walk in process to get the money from the insurance . No inland revenue department coming to chase him down. He basically has the car fully paid for since you only have 4 more months .
