Turbo issue on sr20det fwd

Postby Dennis61 » November 6th, 2014, 1:55 pm

A few days I realized the engine (w11) was running lean under boost around 12.6. Before it was 11.8 steady at 12psi. This problem just appeared out of nowhere NO CHANGES MADE.

I increased the fuel pressure a bit above 3 bars (vacuum line off) and that seemed to work. Changed fuel filter, cleaned maf, checked for leaks before turbo Inlet, recalibrated wideband.

Mechanic said it could be the Chinese fpr. Will look for leaks around the wideband today.

Faulty
1)Chinese fpr?
2)walbro fuel pump?
3)Air flow sensor?
4)wideband sensor going

What you guys think

Well it's lean imo

Came across this :
0-5 psi 12.3-12.6
5-10 psi 11.9-12.3
10-14psi 11.0 to 11.9 AFR

You could probably check the change in fuel pressure with the car idling and the vacuum line (to the regulator) connected and then disconnected. This would indicate whether the regulator is responding appropriately to changes in vacuum/boost.
Dont see how leaks around the wideband would contribute as the exhaust system is under positive pressure...

The reason i ask cause with the wideband on my car when driving normal is between 13 and 14.7 rich under hard driving is about from 10 to 12 which is rich lean is anything over 15 or when it goes in the red, optimal is orange ,rich is green. I suggest u do some rrsearch from the other forums i have read this is true for most engines

Something I overlooked is the wideband sensor itself. I know they have to be replaced ever so often due to fouling. I cleaned it with some carburetor spray and the problem has since been fixed. Air fuel ratios back down to 11.8 in boost. Will get that replaced.
No management currently, stock w11 ecu. I have a ecu with a basic nismotronic chip being remapped by a fellow tuner. Should be collecting it this week.
