LOL the heat gun is not "safer"...you risk uneven heating with the gun if you stay on any one area too long or too not long enough, which can warp the lens or housing.
The only time I'd reccommend the heat gun is if you have a curved lens to work with and you'll need to work your way slowly. Other than that, the oven's the way.

Pre-heat oven to 350F for about 15mins. While it's heating up, remove bulb and any clips from headlight housing.
Turn off oven and place headlights (on a baking tray) in oven for abt 15mins. This slowly heats the glue holding the lend to the housing. You turn off the oven first so the heat doesn't climb to where it starts to melt the headlight.
After 15mins, remove headlamp and use a flat screwdriver to pry lens off housing.

NOTE:
Do not allow any dust or liquid to contaminate the glue, this will simply be re-heated to be reused. You DO NOT need silicon sealant or any caulking to seal the headlamp when you're done.
Do not allow any liquid inside the headlight housing. This will vapourise inside the light and cause the inside of the lens to fog up.

When you 've finished your repair and need to re-seal the unit, simply pre-heat oven again as before (350F for 15mins), switch off oven, place both parts on the baking tray (with the glue side up, so it doesn't touch the paper and stick to it) for the same 15mins, and afterward, just press them together.

i think there is a market for someone to start doing headlight repairs/smoking/blacking out? cuz it seems everyone afraid to do it themselves

^^Already covered
Youth on the forums here by the name of arran193 did an excellent projector retrofit for me
Work was clean and professional and so far in all this rain i've had no issues with condensation .
Don't think repairs?smoking/ blacking out should be too difficult after something like that

hey i have done both with heatgun and oven. the oven is definately better but i dont preheat it to anywhere colse to 350 degrees. i would put the oven to 100, 150 max and leave it in for just 5 minutes take it out and if the glue is still to hard put it in for another 5 minutes. when resealling the original sealant should be enough but on my recent retrofits i use windscreen sealant just to make sure its sealled fully.
If you have any questions just PM me and i will help you out
