K20a swap cost?

Postby COROLLA KID » October 16th, 2014, 8:47 pm

I know a B18c Type R swap would run you around 35k to do, but compare that to a K20a swap
will the "K" be more expensive or the same? Talking bout a K20a + gearbox and wiring..
the mounting conversion to EG or EK are fairly cheap or could be fabricated locally so exclude that along with the K pro ECU..
I know there EG's and EK's with K20's here, so can someone estimate a cost?

3 yrs ago I paid 24k for a front half. Last I heard it was 30k. After that.. How the engine getting in the car? Parts won't need replacing/upgrading?

The swap varies in cost.
1. Present price for a K in the bamboo - $35+
2. Do you want AC & PS ? .. these are not bolt for bolt and custom fab is required
3. Custom axles - $5000+
4. Exhaust and Header - depends on your pocket
5. Kpro

Dayum......40+ for a K! what if its shipped from the US wouldn't it be cheaper??
My mind has never changed so fast..lol...
rather spend 20K on my B16 on Boost and make 2x the power of the K
The K would be nice but WOW! $$$

What about the non Type R K's (K24's, K20's) arn't they under 15K?

even if you get the engine cheap, you still have to spend on labour and swap parts etc (a LOT of money) unless you do it the cheap way (more headache and time)

I put together a swap list using various K resources. You can save money doing it yourself, but I assume most should have an experienced mechanic do the swap as it is not as simple as a B or even an H swap.

Full swap price including engine (Crv or Type R) would run anywhere from $60k to $80k depending on how baller you want to be. Even a basic swap requires mounts, wiring, fuel parts, custom header, aftermarket intake, ecu (aftermarket one time), axles, shifter mod, hoses, etc... some of these things you can DIY, but you can buy all this stuff off the shelf now and make your life easier.

You can save a few more bucks by going CRV, but you would still want the ITR gearbox... either way, doing it on the 'cheap' would still land you close to $60k. That's all very 'bling factor' considering you can do a full rebuild with forged parts and turbo kit on any D, B or H series for half that price.... aftermarket axles, clutch, flywheel, PP, management and you still won't spend $60G's.

did you ever consider the h22/f20 swap??

you can just get the engine and go with the h2b kit. you already have the gearbox and you can use your bseries axles.

^ no they not gonna make that
How u gonna connect the shift linkage

It gonna be in front the box

Also the Kbox has similar ratios as a b and you can make a frank box with even better ratios that cannot compare to b ratios

Just for my knowledge how hard is it to bring a CRV/Accord K20 to Type R spec or better?

^ unless u got links in customs it still not gonna be cheap

If you cannot buy a stock K20r do not even consider a "Built" K series engine

The cost of doing this will make you look the other way.

But there are a few things that can be done to make you smile.

H22 and gearbox can be around $15k-$20k with parts and service being much cheaper than a K series... There is nothing like K (i-VTEC) power as its newer technology and more fuel economic too but for us here in the Caribbean where ah 1000hp build not necessary unless you are planning on building ah racing circuit, you can build ah good H22 with power bands of 300hp-400hp (turbo or non-turbo) and ease the pocket ah lil bit more than ah K stock build ( don't talk about mods)... I n all hunting ah H22a4 and box complete conversion...

was attempting a k build early this year , when i see the price of parts and swap ..... i cancel it , based on HP vs Cost

k20 swap is a waste .... IMO

after that swap costing $60 k for the least , K20R (stock ) then now u goin to do mods to get more HP ....

better bang for bucks b18cR boost ....

d15 Boost

Hold up on buying a K20 in a couple years we will be able to get the new Turbocharged engine from the new Civic Type R, 306bhp right off the bat no mods needed....DIY mounts FTW we have talented people in Trinidad and its not as complicated as it seems....picture that in a ek or eg as a daily driver,
and it "should" be around the same price of what K20's are selling for now.....should be

:o that would be much more expensive than K20 fadda... and while ah agree it will be ah good project for ah EG or EK, the price might kill it... Will like to see the new Type R perform though or the Mugen Type RR version...

Yes it would, but by then the price for a K20 would drop... and the price K20's selling for now will be the price for the new engine, so K20 will be the cheaper older engine to the new one just like the B18 is to the K20 now.......them bamboo men must be mad if they planning to sell a 4cylinder engine thats in production now for 50K+ thats more then the price of a 2JZgte or RB26
