Re: "Vintage" Car Audio...

That 8600 was the best head unit I ever owned. I rate it better than the 80prs just for the dolphin and car animation. 80prs was all functionality, no style The previous head unit that I used to own was the 9800BT. That head unit had a beautiful display. If I remember correctly, you could even uplo...

Yes, but why would you? You'd still end up with one Fb anyway, and one vent working better than the other.

Re: Random Stuff in Car Audio ...

something different ... 9saG0dZCELM Not really a horn. More likely a 1/4 wave resonator. A true bass horn will need to have a path length and mouth diameter comparable to the lowest frequency the horn is being designed to produce. At 35 Hz, the effective radius of the mouth would need to be 3 meter...

Re: Random Stuff in Car Audio ...

It seems, 6th is the way for me. T line good bit too big Unless you're building a "bass whistle", the overall volume of a TL should be only slightly bigger than a vented box designed for the same driver. Go bigger and you just gain more output around the resonance frequency. 6th orders ar...

Re: Random Stuff in Car Audio ...

I was watching the dropp off at 45hz and was saying oh geed. But then realized thst was at over 100db's Look at the scale. This build is +/- 2.5 dB from 42 Hz to 100 Hz. The passband is probably a little bit lumpy due to proximity effects from nearby walls. Considering that Hornresp does not includ...

Re: Random Stuff in Car Audio ...

I have a page up about the project at http://www.diysubwoofers.org/projects/other/POC7/ There's an FR graph there, but it's not an accurate one because it was taken in my garage. The linearity of this build is something else. Can only handle 100W though before hitting 10% THD, because it's a cheap P...

Re: Random Stuff in Car Audio ...

thats an interesting placement of d speaker in d middle since u usually see it placed at d starting point but i sure u have ur reasons for doing that ... It's a technique to null out the 1st harmonic resonance, placing the driver 1/3rd of the way down the line. You gain a bit of bandwidth at the ex...

Re: Random Stuff in Car Audio ...

Unfortunately when it was built, the edges weren't protected so I've got a bit of wood-filling to do to address where the ply was shredded. But yes, it would look good if I kept the grain look, perhaps with a rosewood stain... :-)

Re: Random Stuff in Car Audio ...

how did that poc3 th perform and what wattage put into it ? It actually performed pretty well, but it is one 12" driver with low Xmax rated to take 350W, so it does not perform miracles. I did build a 32 Hz TH with an 18" B&C driver (the 18TBX100, if I remember correctly) and that sho...

Null out the first harmonic resonance to increase its usable bandwidth.

Re: Car audio advice thread

FWIW, I know I can end up cranking it a little on the weekends after I've had a beer or two. I prefer to not blow the drivers in Matilda's doors, so I have the acoustic x-over point at around 100 Hz (if I remember correctly). The electrical x-over point is a bit higher.

You have a write up for that x-over design/build on your site by chance? There's some information here, but not much - http://www.diysubwoofers.org/projects/car/PAB359/speakers.htm if I remember correctly, the x-overs were designed by Madisound to suit the drivers I chose to use - and I ended up mo...

Re: Car audio advice thread

IMO those x-overs packaged with component systems are basic designs that are probably just to ensure that you don't blow the drivers by feeding them frequencies that they can't handle (tweeters) or too much power overall (good ones have power-protection components included in the tweeter section of ...

Some company did have dual motors, but for spl.. Steve Meade used them back in the day, in some vids. Not the same thing. Re: Brane Audio's

Me, I would just add weight to the sub diaphragm, to shift the resonance down to 30hz. And where that reduces the upper range of that driver, put another driver to fill that gap. Adding weight significantly reduces efficiency, and the driver's suspension has to be designed to carry the extra weight...
